Pretzels Recipe

Norway > Recipes > Baking > Pretzels

Provided by Aggie Rygh

What You'll Need:

  • 1 envelope (1 tablespoon) yeast
  • 1/2 warm water (not boiling)
  • 1 t molasses
  • 1 t salt
  • 1-1/2 c whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg beaten

What to do:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
  • In a large mixing bowl dissolve yeast in the warm water. Add the molasses and salt, mix well. Stir in the flour.
  • Knead the dough, roll thin snake like pieces out. Form any shapes you want. I'd recommend the norwegian flag. That's what I do. Place them on a baking sheet.
  • Brush with the beaten egg and salt, then finally place them in the oven for about 10 minutes. (They go real good with rømmegrøt or lefse)
