Hardanger Lefse Recipe

Norway > Recipes > Baking > Lefse > Hardanger Lefse

Recipe provided by Anne Osnes

This is a different type of lefse. It is kind of fluffy, with a sweetness to it. Spread on butter and sprinkle with sugar, as you would potato lefse.

What You'll Need

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup Karo syrup
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

What to do

  • Beat the egg and sugar together, lightly melt the margarine and syrup, mix the buttermilk and the baking soda.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl.
  • Make a well in the center and pour in the first three mixtures.
  • Roll out on a floured board to 1/8" thickness.
  • Cook on lefse grill until lightly browned, flip and do the same.
